Robert D. Landon
Chief of Police
Chief Landon is a United States Navy veteran who received his honorable discharge as a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer in 1993. He served more than eleven years onboard Trident and Fast-Attack Class nuclear powered submarines during Operation Desert Storm and the Cold War Period. He has called Washington, California, Hawaii and Connecticut home for brief periods of time.
After joining the Yuba City Police Department in 1994, Chief Landon promoted through the ranks of the Department. He has held the positions of Patrol Officer, Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Deputy Chief and on December 30th 2008, he became the Department's 14th Chief Officer. Additionally, he served as the Tactical Commander for the Department's Multi-jurisdictional SWAT Team, which has responsibility for critical incident resolution within the jurisdictions of Yuba City, Yuba County, Marysville and Beale A.F.B. The Chief has completed Basic and Advanced SWAT curriculums through the Federal Bureau of Investigations and SWAT Team Leader and SWAT Commander courses through International Training Resources Inc. He is an active member of the National Tactical Officers Association and the California Association of Tactical Officers.
Chief Landon possesses a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix and a Master of Science Degree in Emergency Services Administration from California State University, Long Beach. Additionally, Chief Landon is an Adjunct Professor of Law Enforcement History, Investigations and Crimes against the Justice System at the California Junior College level. He is a graduate of the West Point Leadership Academy (held at the Los Angeles Police Academy in accordance with criteria sanctioned by the United States Military Academy at West Point), the F.B.I. National Academy, held in Quantico, Virginia and the POST Management and Executive Development Courses of instruction. He possesses Management and Executive Certification from the California Police Officers Standards and Training (POST) Commission.
Along with multiple military awards and decorations, Chief Landon also possesses the Yuba City Police Department's Purple Heart, Distinguished Service Medal, Police Unit Commendation with "V" Device and oak leaf cluster, Peace Officer of the Year Ribbon, Chief's Outstanding Unit Award with Oak Leaf Cluster, Police Individual Commendation Medal and the Police Achievement Ribbon with four oak leaf clusters. Additionally, he was awarded the Silver Medal in weight lifting at the 2007 Western States Police and Fire Games (formally known as the Police Olympics) in Mesa, Arizona and in 2008 and 2009, he received the Gold Medal in the same event held in Boise, Idaho and Santa Clarita California.
Chief Landon is very active in the community. He is a Commissioner for the Sutter County Children and Families Commission and volunteers his time as a little league coach for Sutter Buttes and a coach with the River Valley Junior Falcons Football Program.
Chief Landon is married to the former Traci Love of Yuba City. They are the proud parents of a son, Carter.
