Years of police service are marked on the left sleeve of the formal Class A jacket by means of stars and laurel wreaths.  A star is awarded for every four years of service and the wreath is a symbol of 20 years of service.  There can be combinations of a laurel wreath and stars.  The color blue is assigned to line personnel while gold is worn by command staff.  (On normal uniform shirts, years of service are reflected on the left sleeve by means of hash marks - each representing 4 years of service).
